I am using it with MM in 2.2... but it worked in every 2.x version since 2.02 (i guess). So, I suggest to recheck all steps for errors...

sure, but to include it by default is also a matter of copyright. but this shouldn't be the problem because nearly all are under Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license.

with moving i mean panning the screen. the already mentoined idea with the 9 map-tiles (8 extra ones) would allow to pan at least one complete screen size. so...

The zoomsteps below 0 also affects the usability of MM in the car. In my optinion you can't use MM while driving because of the concentration which is needed for the small maps (even on zoom step 0)....
