Yes, it's a age old known problem (unrelated to CSSU, but of course we might ponder how to fix it in CSSU, since it's basically a config bug).
Your assumption regarding swap is probably correct. Swappolube might fix stuff. There should be other threads in tmo that investigate on the problem more deeply.

cheers

Joerg, just hoping to put it on the map as a possibility for a CSSU fix at some point. Swappolube is a great idea too.

I was gonna ask devs about their standpoint on swappolube the other day. is it still recommended most people are using or does the latest cssu (testing or thumb) behave better without it?

AFAIK CSSU doesn't touch any swap related settings, so swappolube is as "recommended" for CSSU as it is for stock maemo fremantle.
I'll try to kick off a discussion on #maemo-ssu what can be done in CSSU regarding this problem.

There's a thread for best settings.
I too would be interested if people are using different settings for thumb.

While I can't locate the swappolue best settings thread here is the swappolube announce thread.

I use the same settings I used before the thumb era and I don't think thumb needs any special VM treatment.

Before entitling a set of settings "the best" we need a criteria. I am all for a package in CSSU to tweak VM, but we need some measurement system and criteria to choose those settings.

@all - feel free to start a new thread with propositions on the above. But please, no WFM, only hard data/benchmarks, etc.

EDIT:

Maybe it is better to wait wiki to be functional again, so the data to be gathered in one place

It will turn to landscape mode instead of staying in portrait mode.
This is not latest release bug.

Thanks for the reports!
Both bugs are already fixed in the master branch.

"Best" may be dependent on usage, obviously Nokia thought the current settings as best (and they may be for general usage - i.e. a balance between max number of open apps and speed of one single app). I for example tend to have many apps idle, most people close their apps when they're done with them.

I believe we should fix the obvious bug (lockup of system up so much that the watchdog kicks in during heavy IO) and leave other settings to the user to tweak.

For the record I have experienced reboot even while not-so-heavy IO, synchronizing over internet with unison/rsync

Is there anything wrong with swappolube?
Personal preferences and card speeds means everybodys setting maybe different.
Well if using SD swap which IMO is a good idea
I don't think you can go far wrong with slight tweaks to the "proposed" swappolube setting IMO.

I too agree wiki is the best place if compiling data like that.
