I took my spare 900 apart to strengthen the USB port, on cleaning the dust out of the chassis with a small brush, I dislodged this part:



It goes in the rear case:



Can anyone tell me where?

Sorry mate, that was as far as I could get you on this one. There are some threads around where people opened their devices and took photographs. You might find what you need to know in one of those. (Sadly I am not able to give you more real pointers than that.)

If it's up to me, I hope to avoid opening up any of my N900's for a long time to come.

The plastic pad on the small metal bracket has signs of significant rubbing wear - the metal of the bracked has signs of discolouration caused by spot welding, so I think it has broken off somewhere inside. I'm turning my attention to the stylus slide area now.

I also believe I have seen screenshots of others showing that part near the stylus area..
