Re: Nitdroid today, nice android apps and your n900

I never realy got into medical apps that much; I remember when palm pilot became popular for healthcare folks very suddenly. The hospital where I practice has institutional licenses for quite a few...

Re: Samsung Galaxy Tab Info Thread

Apple's app store is an unregistered trademark (http://www.apple.com/legal/trademark/appletmlist.html). Furthermore, many assert that it's a fairly generic term that predates the iPhone. I don't...

Re: [Make Sticky] I will Pay £50 to someone who can copy Alien Dalvik to work on N900

I don't see how selling directly to a few dozen n900 owners would impact their current business model. I doubt Microsoft and especially Apple will allow this on their devices; they'd be...

Re: Maybe the unpleasant truth is that MeeGo really was too late and/or not good enough?

Nokia was building on top of the Linux kernel, GNU libs, and QT. All of the heavy lifting was done for them. They only needed to release a solid basic OS. I think that this is exactly what it...

Re: Microsoft is the plague: Nokia stock drops 14% as 1,000 employees walk out

In return, over the long term, this may cost Nokia heavily. It's been confirmed that they'll be paying a license fee on each device they produce--it might not be the $15-$20 that other manufacturers...

Re: Nokia - Microsoft partnership (merged threads)

It's open source under the GPL3, so if truly threatened, it could be forked by the QT community, like Openoffice. The problem is that QT would lose it's corporate sponsorship, so development won't...

Re: Nokia - Microsoft partnership (merged threads)

Images of guitar riffs and Tawny Kitaen having her way with Coverdale's Jaguar enter my mind. Thank you.

Re: Is there anything we can do??

Last fiscal year, Nokia spent almost $4B on research. It's almost incomprehensible that they couldn't get an OS built on linux and QT out the door with that kind of funding. If Nokia believed it...

Re: elop's first responsibilty is to his shareholders, not us

Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but Windows Mobile never gained much marketshare overall, and what it had was mainly concentrated in North America. Why would Nokia bet it's future on a long-shot...

Re: MeeGo be fast on N900 in future?

The UI looks pretty good here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWtMLs3j09U but applications seem to load slowly, perhaps due to the SD card? I haven't messed around with Meego images yet, so I don't...

Re: N900 Scrolling

The toolkit seems to matter--all of the Qt apps I've used have fluid drawing and scrolling.

Re: can't control mouse on n900 (VNC Viewer)

You can try PresenceVNC in devel. It has the right and left mouse buttons mapped to the volume rocker. It's more feature complete than vncviewer.

Re: Steve Jobs on open vs closed

Texas Instruments is quoted as saying that when the OMAP4 debuts, the OMAP3 SOC's will displace ARM11 on the low end. I can understand if Meego is reserved for high-end handsets for performance...

Re: Windows phone 7 has gone gold: The meego parallel

You have to really wonder (http://technolog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2010/09/10/5087329-zombies-hearses-and-monster-trucks-mark-windows-phone-7-celebration?ocid=twitter) if Microsoft is taking this...

Re: Is it worth the wait for an a9 proccesor

The first Omap4 based devices are anticipated to be released within 6 months, and certainly by this time next year. That's not long off. If you haven't already, you should watch some of the videos...

Re: HTC Glacier - dual processors!

It should have reduced clock efficiency with the added pipeline stages. The observed performance seems to support this.

Re: How can the n900 succesor defeat its rivals??

I think the out-of-box experience is key. Rather than having a large number of apps that offer incremental functionality, I'd prefer if enhancements were built in, or rolled in during future...

Re: meego tablet looks like it will kill i pad!!!!!!!!

It's a prototype but he said in the clip (~5:20) that battery life is around 6hrs. That's not very promising.

Re: N900 five month sales less than 100,000, really?

In the first 5 weeks, the sales were hampered by availability, not by lack of interest in the device.

Re: Nokia maps with no data... what capabilities? GPS works?

Yes, as mentioned in other threads, use GPSJinni to acquire your location. It won't time out like OVI maps and it's desktop widget do. Once it locks, you can use whatever you want to navigate...

You could try leaving GPSJinni on for a bit so it gets a good lock on the satellites, then compare the gps coordinates it gives with Google Earth or a similar application. That might indicate if...
