No. In nitdroid system files there are 4 Ocs profiles (500-700, 500-1000, .....). I don't know which one does nitdroid boots by default.
Thats my question.
Thank u for your interest.:)

I think it boots with the highest over-clocking one....I installed nitdroid today and the processor was going up to 1150 by default

hello
I just installed nitdroid N12 on my n900 and the installation was successful.

when i restarted the phone to run android, i pressed the nitdroid option in the multiboot and then there was some code on the screen. After that the phone turned off so i tried to turn it on again and all i get is the white screen with "NOKIA" and then it turns of again.
It won't go beyond that screen.
I also tried to flash it but i can't get the usb icon when pressing U

can you please help me?

thanks!

The kernel doesn't use any profiles that have been prepared in "/etc/" before you rename one of those to "power.conf" (http://forum.nitdroid.com/index.php?topic=116.0). The kernel will set the highest frequency to 1150 MHz in default before you use one of those profile or use SetCPU to set the CPU frequency.

In newest nitdroid there is no power.conf.(at this path). I think they disable this features in newest version.

The back-camera driver is already ported, but still not fully functional. I've tried CameraX, but most of features in that app can't be used.

Most of *nix operating system use "power.conf" inside "/etc/" to control the voltages, freqs, etc. If you aren't sure with that on NITDroid, you can use SetCPU instead.

To create ya' own power.conf, fire up Xterm then:
mount /home /and
cd /and/system/etc
mv oc-profile-500-750.conf power.conf
leafpad power.conf

Well, if you're dying to help, and really have the expertise, try this as a start:
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=1128503&postcount=3457

I tried compiling the GPS modules but got really lost in the middle of the process, I didn't give it much effort though to be honest, but time is killing me right now with my O levels coming.

ammyt do you have the changelog between kernel final06 and 07? none of the 07 rc boot nitdroid, gives kernel oanic and need kernel flash to boot maemo. I try to find the reason (revision 2204)

the last nitroid i used was umay or vostok before i reflash my phone because i messed up something at some tweaks.

i want to know if the latest version is always using 100% of the cpu that makes the phone to heat up like the old versions did. i think this shorten my phone's battery life more because of the heating problem...

After that I get only a "NOKIA" logo screen, and then a reboot to multiboot again, nitdroid want boot. Installation was fully sucessful, I had archives downloaded on MyDocs.
I also tried to uninstall nitdroid with autoinstaller and then install it again, but it not solve the problem. Any ideas?

Just untar the new archive over the old one, or wait for the new autoinstaller.

Have all repositories on.

I had all repo's active. Without installing new kernel(just leave that one is installed with autoinstaller) I have a lot of communications with init permission deined when booting nitdroid:

init: cannot execve('/system/bin/mediaserver'): Permission denied

And some more similar to that. I read about that on TMO, tried to mount /and and change chmod of /and/system/bin/* to 777 but that didn't solve my problem.

Any ideas?

make sure you have extras devel and testing are enabled in HAM. if not enable these repositories in HAM and then let it HAM to update itself. then you will have all the apps in HAM available for install. then run nitdroid auto installer and it will do the rest. then u will be able to use both maemo and nitdroid.

Which version of nitdroid kernel you use?

Dont need to full reflash your phone if failed to boot . Flash only maemo kernel
flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2.203.1_PR_COMBINED_203_ARM.bin --flash-only=kernel -f -R

Briefly...
Run the autoinstaller in the first page, let it "flow" then boot N12. Quickly reboot back to maemo without touching a thing, then open Xterm and:
root
bzip2 -d /home/user/MyDocs/something.tar.bz2
mount /something /somand
cd /somand
tar xvf /home/user/MyDocs/something.tar.bz2
dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/afileRC7.deb

I kinda have encrypted the instructions :P, to make sure inexperienced people won't boil their devices.

Your internal memory got read-only, I am not sure if this will work!
root
umount /home
fsck -a /home/
reboot
Then run the uninstaller, then the installer again.

Don't ask that question again! Your version is very stable compared to 2.3.7 and 4.0.3.
If you wanna try to use camera and better accelerometer on NITDroid, upgrade to 2.3.7! However, camera and accelerometer still not yet fully usable and the OS often crashes.
If you wanna develop NITDroid, upgrade to 4.0.3! It's very unstable and still useless. Contribute a patch to help e-yes and friends!
NITDroid is a project that still in development! So, don't expect more!

If you want to know about it, you can follow the discussion in this thread (http://forum.nitdroid.com/index.php?topic=2977.0) in the NITDroid forum (e-yes's there). But don't ask a question like this! Actually, we should help e-yes and friends to contribute in the NITDroid Project. But, most of us need more knowledge to do that. So, we are just discussing about technical problems and how to resolve them. :)

Mmmm.I install Nitdroid on sdcard class 10. No such a problem. I Can't find a reason why that happens to you.

As I know so far to Change this setting from maemo you have to edit vold.fstab in system/etc.

Hi..

I am not writing this as: my first problem encountered - and i run to you for help.

I've run Vostok successfully for many days..
I wished to upgrade to UMay. It did not work, so i reflashed to combined and Vanilla (fayad's 5gb partition scheme) - it worked fantastically.

I had rootfs & Optfs backups, i backed'em up. Reinstalled UMay directly with 'final1' kernel.. and multiboot with backupmenu patched for multiboot (again as per mido.fayad's instructions). Everything crashed again.

I'm now trying to reinstall UMay. I've restored my rootfs and Optfs again.. this must work. I may be missing something here and your help will be really great. Can you also tell me if the 'nitdroid-installer' is absolutely necessary..? I've kexec, mtd-utils, and lots of other dependencies already well installed.

I always get the 'can't flash kernel' with the power-kernel (OC : 250~850) and 'mmcblk0p5 missing - nothing in /etc/fstab' with the NITDroid kernel.. as errors.

Please. Help.

What you should do is as follows:
1. Flash 8GB eMMC and Fiasco
2. Create the new mmcblk0p5 partition >=2GB
3. mkdir /and then mount it on mmcblk0p5
4. Extract N12 Umay to /and
5. apt-get kernel-power-flasher kernel-power-settings multiboot kernel-power-bootimg backupmenu
6. dpkg the nitdroid kernel
7. Install the backupmenu patch by mido.fayad
8. Reboot

Hey ammyt, a few questions;

a) Why can't i work with 5GB root..?
b) After step 2 and before step 3, i'd like to restore my rootfs & optfs using backupmenu - to be able to get all my settings, apps, etc. That's what i've done everytime after the 5GB flashing routine.
c) You say "Install the backupmenu patch by mido.fayad" - but everytime it ends up breaking the power-kernel AND the nitdroid-kernel. :[

Guys I have a problem that I have been trying to solve for several days.

It is about the NITdroid, there go what happens:

1- I did a complete FIASCO and Vanilla reflash for my phone.

2- Then, I installed nitdroid "AUTOINSTALLER"

3- I downloaded nitdroid using the AUTOINSTALLER"

4- Whenever I try to install it the following messages are appearing in the x-terminal : "mmc 1 not found moving to method 2" , echo :not found , sleep 1 : "not found". These, appear after the installation is complete.

5- When I try to boot nitdroid the opperation will stop at a message that says : kernel panic.

6- Then my phone will turn off and won't be able to turn on again unless I do a reflash to my phone.

I have reflashed my phone for more that 7 times and still the same errors occur.

Well here lies my weakness point. I never used backupmenu before literally never, so I don't know how things work with it. But installing is very logical, 5GB eMMC is okay.
Well, first repartition, then restore, then extract NITDroid, then get KP with multiboot and KP bootimg, then fayad's backupmeu patch.

If that did not work, try to first repartition, then install KP and multiboot with KP bootimg, then backupmenu patch, and then proceed with extracting NITDroid and installing its kernel.

Spent most part of the day, yesterday installing Nitdroid by a variety of methods. Most of the installs were successful.

Yes, it works. Is it stable? Hell no. It crashes. It freezes for no apparent reason. It kernel panics or just refuses to reboot eight out of ten times.

I'd love a stable Android on my machine, without SMS, phone functions and the like. But this project is certainly not ready in the way it's being promoted.

Here is short guide for installing app via terminal in Nitdroid. as i have installed nitdroid today and my gprs connection doesn't work with nitdroid here is the guide for install any app via terminal.
place your apk file in MyDocs.
boot nitdroid then go to menu>dev tools>terminal emulator.

rename your apk file to short and simple name.e.g i wanted to install astro file manager for i just renamed it to astro.apk after opening terminal type:

su (it will request for super user permission grant it)
cd /sdcard
install astro.apk /system/app/astro.apk

it will install your app quickly. it will not write anything in terminal. just check your menu.

Good luck.

the first five or so reboots of nitdroid was very unstable for me, i even tried to have it idle off overnight and the battery would just drain, but after installing apps to improve performance, SetCPU, ram optimiser, swap etc it IS STABLE
I use it everyday, I have aDownloader running (torrent client) and have downloaded films and tv shows at 400kbs max while playing games no problem (I could never do that with Transmission in maemo)

@anthonie, probably you have overclock unstability issues, you should clock it to something more reasonable with SetCPU, dalvik.vm.heapsize=32m is also a good stabilizer. If you cannot do any of these steps read on the past posts. If you cannot adecuatelly make it function and feel that this software is not for you uninstall and check later or try fixing it, your lack of optimizations does not mean this project is over-advertised ;)

EDIT: With reasonable I mean 700 or 800 rather than 1150MHz :D

can anybody tell me why superuser is not working in ICS ?everything looks fine and working great. how to fix the superuser thing as its not giving any app root access.

First I have to start by saying I have NEVER used nitdroid and am no Android expert (the whole "no X server" thing scared me away).

I would try fixing it as follows (and I am assuming the problem is with the whole ICS rootfs rather than your particular installation):
1) Copy the "su" binary from N12
2) Copy the "sudoers.conf" (or whatever) from N12
3) Replace those two files in your install, possibly applying the executable permissions to "su" (chmod 755 /bin/su OR WHATEVER)

Ammyt, it would be great if you answered if the non-sudo problem is with ICS or with his install (i.e. can you do su ;) ).

I hope this is of some help to you, I tried :D

Good luck and happy new years

EDIT: Oh and install that superuser app thingie from the market, the one that asks you if you want to grant superuser priviledges :)

What "methods" are you talking about? Interesting.

Secondly, NITDroid runs as smooth as Maemo, if that's not the case with you than you have got a problem. "...refuses to reboot eight out of ten times." Waaaaw and how is that exactly?
There is no way kernel panics can happen more than one time. It is a single shot, either boot it or not.

I have been using NITDroid since two months. did NOT face any problems during installation.
Now all of sudden (without any modification). It shows guru meditation error when NITDroid is chosen at bootscreen.

Secondly, NITDroid runs as smooth as Maemo
at 805MHz. Android really needs more RAM to run smoothly. 512MB would be nice. 256MB of RAM results in excessive process killing in the background.

On a side note, if calls worked, N12 would be usable daily. The app you're using doesn't FC, like older versions for NITDroid.

BTW, is N14 moving to u-boot? I heard that it no longer uses a ramdisk. That would be really nice -- multiboot sometimes fails to properly flash the kernel, and I need to connect it to flasher to upload a good kernel again.

Hi..!

Is there really an issue with multiboot that fails to load the kernel..? I mean, is it a bug in the 'multiboot' application, or is it something more basic like a limitation of the device itself which multiboot can't overcome..? I ask because multiboot itself looks great.. and IT PERFORMS with BackupMenu (which is an awesome tool).

For anyone having issues with "Force close" errors in a lot of apps in Nitrdoid (OOME usually), the following fix should help:

1. Boot into Maemo
2. Open X-Term (Ctrl+X)
3. Run 'vi /home/system/build.prop'
4. Press i to change to edit/insert mode
5. At the end of the file, add the following line:
dalvik.vm.heapsize=32m
6. Press 'esc', write ':wq'
7. Boot back into Nitdroid and you should be sweet :)

The offence was taken, nontheless... It's not a rant, but a sharing of experiencers. But let's not get into a semantics debate here. Not interested...

What "methods" are you talking about? Interesting.

Well, let's see what we've got here:

2 methods here:
http://wiki.maemo.org/Nitdroid_easy_install_on_EMMC

another one here:
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=1144275&postcount=3605

Secondly, NITDroid runs as smooth as Maemo
That's subjective talk that only leads to semantic debates. I would ask you to define "smooth", share your devices' uptime in Nitdroid and what not. Again, I am not interested. I would rather hear a detailed description of how to make things run as smooth as some people here claim to have their Nitdroid running.

if that's not the case with you than you have got a problem

Possibly. Hence the questions I asked you a while ago, hence the hours I put into it yesterday. Oddly enough, this same phone is able to run Maemo/Meego as well as Maemo/Ubuntu combinations. The stability of Nitdroid >2.3.4 on the other hand...

"...refuses to reboot eight out of ten times." Waaaaw and how is that exactly?
What do you think? It's called waiting. And it's boring.

There is no way kernel panics can happen more than one time.
I didn't say that. Please read more carefully.

It's a flaw in either multiboot or flasher. It's an effect of multiboot's design. Ideally, the ONLY kernel you'd flash would be the pr1.3 kernel with u-boot, then have that kernel load kernel-power or NITDroid kernel, then those kernels load as usual.

As it stands now, every time you want to switch between Maemo and NITDroid kernels, you either have to use PC side flasher tool to load kernel (***-backwards) or flash it to the internal NAND (will eventually create bad blocks, this is bad for a myriad of reasons, even if the NAND has ways to remap these)

Have you tried the SetCPU I mentioned earlier?? An even better approach is to use the power.conf files mentioned a few pages back by ammyt, cp a preset config file like the 750 or 800 and it might improve. Your phone simply might not be stable at a 1150 frequency (like a 95% overclock ;) ) so bring it down to 750 :)

Another thing is giving dalvik more ram with the approach mentioned before, the one where you change a parameter in a file, mentioned in this page or the previous one :)

Give them a shot, come back with any doubts :D

Hi there,
First post and not much to contribute other than some feedback. I have installed N14_snapshot ics for almost a week now after a long time having Gingerbread working smoothly and nice on my N900. As many of you who dared to try ics, at first it was unusable and unstable. After reinstalling few times getting rid of many apps from the N12 previous installation, I found it a lot more usable and stable, still random reboots ocurs but not that often.
For the moment, in my latest installation attemp, I saw the 3G working nicely with no problems (better than in N12_UMay), however I couldnt get the Wireless to work. I also noticed that the phone doesnt overheat as much as in the first installation attempts, and now I can keep it on overnight idle and no battery drain and no reboots.
Market was automatically upgraded after first connection and now it works perfect on ics, in fact, it didnt crash as it used to happen frequently with the N12UMay installation in my hands. I could easily install many of the usual apps and almost all of them worked with no problem. This brings to the main issue I had with the ics, the superuser app doesnt seem to work on N14_snapshot, preventing me to improve the performance by overclocking or playing with other performance tools. Has anybody found a solution for this? If someone knows an easy way to fix this on ics, it will be much appreciated.
Also, sdcard doesnt mount on ics, i have the 8GB partition and Nitdroid installed on the eMMC, any help with this?

Cheers

No need for doubts. It runs, after applying the config changes you mentioned. No longer it seems to reboot out of the blue. But of course more testing is needed in order to be able to really say something usefull about it.

Those config fiddlings should be made sticky.

Thanks for the help pablo.

Does the USB port work? If so, can you root it with an application like SuperOneClick?

It does seem to work as the phone recognize the usb plugged in, but the computer does not show any disk img, presumably as sdcard is not detected in first instance. I will try your suggestion though.
By the way, posted this using the ics browser from my n900

Browser works great as does vkb. Also I can receive text messages. The hardware keyboard does not fully work though.

Try what I said before ;)

First I have to start by saying I have NEVER used nitdroid and am no Android expert (the whole "no X server" thing scared me away).

I would try fixing it as follows (and I am assuming the problem is with the whole ICS rootfs rather than your particular installation):
1) Copy the "su" binary from N12
2) Copy the "sudoers.conf" (or whatever) from N12
3) Replace those two files in your install, possibly applying the executable permissions to "su" (chmod 755 /bin/su OR WHATEVER)

Ammyt, it would be great if you answered if the non-sudo problem is with ICS or with his install (i.e. can you do su ).

I hope this is of some help to you, I tried

Good luck and happy new years

EDIT: Oh and install that superuser app thingie from the market, the one that asks you if you want to grant superuser priviledges
"

Good luck

Just a couple of things:

Uptime has been a couple of hours now, but there are some minor annoyances I'd like to get rid off.

1. The notification area in the top, how can I add things to it, like my wifi connection button? (Seen it in my gf's Touch Wizard from Samsung) Right now wifi sometimes just disconnects and it would be nice to reconnect without having to close the window I am working in at that moment.

2. The notification area keeps nagging me about a corrupt SD card, even though I do not have one in my phone.

3. How do I get my music, which, under Maemo, is located under /home/user/MyDocs/Music, to be found by Android?

4. Also under the notification area, there is a message telling me the device is USB connected, even though it isn't. When I do connect my device, Android offers me to make a USB mass storage connection, but fails to do so when I accept the offer. Anyone in the know of how to connect the device to my Linux laptop and allow file operations?

Just calm down peeps I've got a crapload of posts to reply to.

@Hurrian
Indeed, shifting for u-boot (no more maemo required which could possibly result in a standalone reflashable image with the newest kernel).

@stryker9
What the hell are you doing to your device man? You don't even have to care about what kind of eMMC image your using if you created a custom mmcblk0p5 partition. What is the size of the new partition created? Just repartition, install KP with multiboot then KP bootimg, then the backupmenu patch. After that, report here to see that everything boots up. I will guide you later on.

@trisha02
Stop whining for God's sake okay? I can see that in 12 posts of you in this "lovely" thread were complaints about accelerometer.
http://www.badlogicgames.com/wordpress/?p=2041
This is an Android issue not a bug in NITDroid, it is a bug in the mother system and in the app itself (motolanescrap or whatever). You see it affects phones with a native landscape orientation (N900), where the app launched still thinks that the phone is in landscape while visually on-screen, everything appears as portrait. Try to play that game while using the regular motion you use for landscape games, I bet that it will work. There is no direct way of manipulating that behavior directly as the Android API does not provide a direct method to detect the native orientation, however, if you got the balls (eggs?) you can manipulate the source code of the app and define getRotation() values and re-sell the fixed-by-trisha02 version and get profit.

@anthonie
*I tried to explain that a thousand craping times, there is only one way to install NITDroid! You just choose an ext3 formatted location to extract the rootFS files and guide multiboot to boot the OS from that location, be it /home, a custom partition, an external ext3-formatted microSD, Britney Spear's head, or my balls (they're ext4 formatted, which works too.)
*Do you want a 10 hour video just like a reality show in my channel just to show you the uptime and stability of NITDroid, cuz I have no objections in doing that and I would actually like it. Until that movie is released, you can check the WIKI page, there are a couple of videos that you can watch.
*You said it that "It kernel panics or just refuses to reboot eight out of ten times" so out of the eight times, as your text indicates, it kernel panics more than one time. Let's not get into a grammar lesson, you know now how installation is done, multiboot --> ext3 space --> NITDroid files over there --> NITDroid kernel --> Profit As my mate said, your processor perhaps is not coping, since the default settings is 500 1150, you can tweak that as I had said in some posts before.

@ibrakalifa
Try it in a separate big partition >=2GB as in the WIKI and it will definitely work.

I will dig a bit deeper around your suggestion, bearing in mind that I have limited expertise in these matters, but /i have a very curious mind, and I would love to push n900 to its limits and ics might be the top benchmark it could still beat (as we already see how beautifully performance has improved with maemo and cssu, easydeb et al.).
Selfishly speaking (for n900ers), now e-yes is targetting to port nitdroid to n9, so we might have to wait a bit longer to get a fully functional n14package in n900. But yeah, it is worth the effort.
Any hints of how to make sdcard mountable in ICS? Should this be fixed if i try to install nitdroid on the external class 10 MicroSD card? or does it sounds like an unrelated matter?

Right... Hence the myriad of methods floating around the net or even on this forum. As I said before, I am not in the least interested in a discussion with you. That being said: I would appreciate a change of tone from your side.

Why? Because the first, the second and the third time I asked you about this Nitdroid-thing (about a month ago), you simply assumed at first that I had used the installer version x.27 (without asking for a confirmation whatsoever.). But you insisted installing was a breeze with the automatic installer. And kept insisting. And that, dear Ammyt, just turned out to be nonsense , because fiddling with some config files was an absolute necessity to get this OS running. In short: You failed to provide me with some crucial information and now you want to approach me with an attitude like this? No no sir, you and I are not in a fight with one another. Clear?

I am really happy this Nitdroid is running, and it seems to be running smooth and all. However, that process could have been a lot smoother if you'd care to learn how to document better. Yet you prefer to call a sharing of previous experiences "ranting" and you seem to continue to do so. Stop that, please.

I was really having some fun arguing witchu you know, but it is becoming personal now. Look honey, the last thing I would ever do is to provide misleading/wrong information and ignoring people asking for help. If I ever did that then it is one of the following three reasons:
*Someone hacked into my account and is replying using my name
*The corresponding thread did not appear on the right bar (I seldom click on "more...")
*I have a life outside

Nevertheless, let's keep this a civilized friendly conversation eh? You have problems, and we should look for answers together. I am saying this with honestly no offense intended at all.
1. You don't read, and this is true.
2. You still don't know how NITDroid is installed
3. You are experiencing instabilities with your device
And I should still point this as a problem:
4. You don't admit that you're wrong, and I hate that, you're stubborn as hell.

So let's get into solutions. Please read this thoroughly.
1. The myriad of posts you're referring to here only vary upon where to install NITDroid. As I said before, all you have to do is extract the rootFS on an ext3/4 partition and point multiboot to that place. The other posts are all about installing NITDroid to an external memory card (3 threads about that matter already.) Well nothing differs except the location, I said that before but this is why I said that you don't read! Secondly, I am not the one to blame on repetitive threads, I have "some" moderator powers but I can't manipulate threads.
2. That is what FAQs are there for. (http://wiki.maemo.org/NITDroid_FAQ#Stability_Issues.3F) You can see that all issues including your stability issue are answered in the FAQ. I say no nonsense, your issue is related to the fact that NOKIA didn't maintain the same quality of SoCs in all the N900s produced, should I just come over to your and all other N900 users' places and test what frequency works here and what does not? Oh, give me a break, and as said, this was already answered in the FAQ. See what I meant when I said you don't read?
3. You already KNOW! that 2.3.7 is [EXPERIMENTAL]! and we're working our buts off to solve the errors that came with it, including the USB plugged in notification appearing all the time! I was just discussing that with e-yes a couple of days ago, like I said, I have a life.
4. Admit you're wrong now?

Ammyt,

You're mixing some things here. The last points I made were not, repeat, not complaints. As I stated before, I wanted to have a somewhat stable running Android on my N900 in order to get to know the OS better. What I have now suffices.

Any improvements on this are luxuries as I have no need for phone and text functions. The points 1 to 4 that I made are improvements I'd like to do but they are not necessities. So, yes I know about the current state of 2.3.7 and no, I don't need a reading class for that. Thank you.

I just discovered a fix for the problem of the sdcard not being mounted in NITDroid ICS or 2.3.7 after installing on a new partition, it is a simple symlinking issue.
Basically, open a file manager and you should find a folder called "sdcard", delete it. Then, using what ever way you like, add a symlink of /system/bin/sdcard to the location where you deleted the sdcard folder.
In other words. replace the sdcard folder with a symlink from /system/bin/sdcard.

I personally do this using terminal emulator, but programs such as Filebox in Maemo or Root Explorer in Android offer adding symlinks and more.

Ok let me try to develop this idea further, we are all here to help and learn :) Of course this might not work, it is only a test

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7NJ6NRMI

1) Download the file from the link above (too big to attach, can a mod do it??)
2) Extract it in your N900, put it in the MyDocs folder
3) Open Terminal
4) "sudo mkdir /and"
5) "sudo mount /home /and"
6) "sudo cp /home/user/MyDocs/su /and/system/bin/su"
7) "sudo chmod 755 /and/system/bin/su"
7a) "sudo chown root /and/system/bin/su"
8) "sudo cp /home/user/MyDocs/busybox /and/system/xbin/busybox"
9) "sudo chmod 755 /and/system/xbin/busybox"
9a) "sudo chown root /and/system/xbin/busybox"
10) "rm /and/system/xbin/su" (ignore any error on this command)
11) "ln -s /and/system/bin/su /system/xbin/su"
12) "cp /home/user/MyDocs/Superuser.apk /and/system/app/"
13) Boot into Nitdroid
14) Open the terminal (IN NITDROID)
15) "su"
15b) "/system/xbin/busybox mount -o remount,rw /system"
16) "/system/xbin/busybox --install -s /system/xbin"

I believe that should do it, that was a tough one hehe, basically you are exploiting root on Maemo to give root to Nitdroid, you are manually rooting it. Have fun, give it a shot and tell me how it goes, this is based on an exploit for Gingerbread but it should work ;)

HAVE FUN :D

EDIT: Just a final reminder, come back with any problems or "IT WORKS!!" feedback because I have not tried this, do not use Android a lot :)

EDIT2: Actually that last command will not work, you need to do one last thing before, updated instructions above as 15b :D

EDIT3: Sorry, I remembered you maybe need to change ownership, updated just in case with 7a and 9a, they might not be necessary. Maybe the chown has to be done from android but that is hard without su, the owner would be root.shell :)

Thanks ammyt, I am using NITDroid 2.3.4 with Kernel Version: 2.6.28.NIT.07 (25-02-10). I have installed in 8gb microSD. I am facing sudden reboot sometime during NITDroid 2.3.4 is idle / locked. But with this current setup I can run many games but bit of lag and my memory usage is reaching 80% every time without having any wadgets. I also tried activating the Swap on microSD (/dev/mmcblk1p3). Every time cleanup memory and then need to start any game. I am not sure that this combination (NITDroid 2.3.4 and Kernel 2.6.28.NIT.07) is the best one for speed and performance for running apps/3d games. I mainly use NITDroid for games. I know that we have send/receive sms as the new feature in 2.3.7. Is that 2.3.7 will be much better speed when compared to 2.3.4? Please suggest what is the best combination for better performance of NITDroid.

Please let me know the most stable version of Kernel with optimized performance. Thanks again :)

Happy New Year 2012 !!! :D

Let me get this right, you want to "combine", if you will, two partitions to act as a single one so you can have 40something gigabytes of free space??
There are some methods, but all are pretty rough :)

I'll try to explain much clearer:
I have the 27GB internal storage memory (AKA "MyDocs" in Maemo) and I have a 14.92GB micro SD (AKA "mmc1" in maemo) as shown all in the picture attached. I want an access to both in NITdroid too, as they both contain music and other files I may need. Be it as a single one, or two saperated by completely different paths - as in maemo, as for now I can see and access only the 27GB "MyDocs" partition in NITdroid.
Just name any way you know.

- On it boss..!
:D

..i **** you not, the moment this works with backupmenu, i'll do the russian-dnace thingie..! ;]

I do have a 2.5GB mmcblk0p5 partition. It ran NITDroid very VERY smooth when i was running it without backupmenu. So yeah, i am trying to get this all sorted, with a step-by-step approach.
Plus, there is a problem i noted: when working with KP, after booting Stock - KP could not be reloaded.. this can be corrected by taking the zImage-KP file from /boot to /boot/multiboot. That solves it.. but that completely breakes the Stock-kernel in turn.
Is it (this may be a stupid qweschun), but is it just a limitation that once KP has been installed, you can NOT load stock kernel, at all..?? I'm guessing not.
Plus, can you just check whether backupmenu-multiboot has any dependency-conflict with nitdroid-installer (because the n-installer DOES remove it when it's originally installed)..?

..will report in shortly.

You will probably have to edit /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab from maemo so that they are accessible from android and then mount them from the terminal and access them with a file manager... I imagine at least :D

- I am guessing that such is because with the autoinstaller, your rootfs (maybe?) is getting used instead of a separate partition.

I've read from someone's post/website/blog experienced this problem too! This problem happened after he used move rootfs script to free up rootfs space, but he reflashed his device to solve this.
I think this is locale problem. You can try reinstall locales from XTerm.
apt-get install --reinstall locales
Or you can try to change the device language from Language & Region settings.

Here is my way to install N14:

1. Unpack N12 archive!
2. Install latest kernel!
3. Boot N12 and skip the wizard!
4. Delete 'data' and 'system' folder! (as e-yes suggested)
5. Unpack N14 archive!
6. Boot N14! It will shows "Upgrading Android". :)
7. Enjoy!

I can use it only in the first time I boot N14. After that, I'm stucked at flashing "android" word and never reached the homescreen. Now I'm using my N12 with 2.3.7 update. This is the most stable version I think. I suggest everybody to use this version!
I suggest you to boot N12 first before you install any updates! I feel NITDroid works more stable! :)

I don't know is this will work or not.

1. Create file named 'locale.gen' using vi or Leafpad then place it in '/etc/' filled with en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8 or en_GB.UTF-8 UTF-8 or anything else.

2. From XTerm
root
locale-gen
setlocale
poweroff
3. Remove your battery for several second then place it again.

4. Power on.

Or you can run dpkg-reconfigure

1. Install debconf and run dpkg-reconfigure
root
apt-get install debconf
dpkg-reconfigure locales
(blablabla...do it yourself)
setlocale
poweroff
2. Remove your battery for several second then place it again.

3. Power on.

Or you might have to reflash your device for the first time... :(

Okay, THIS IS TOTALLY WRONG!!
I just tried to ignore the mmcblk1p2 thingy, but it seems that people are drifting towards the wrong side even more.

What does mmcblk1p2 mean?
It means that you're booting from your memory card. BUT in multiboot, this term actually means, ${INT_CARD}p2, look in /etc/multiboot.d/11*.item to see it.
In multiboot:
mmcblk1p2 = ${INT_CARD}p2 = BOOTING FROM /home IN THE PRESENCE OF A MEMORY CARD PLUGGED IN YOUR N900

There is no difference between mmcblk0p2 and ${INT_CARD}p2 (which is the same as mmcblk1p2 in multiboot) except for the fact that the former is used when there is no memory card plugged in your N900, and the latter is used when there is a memory card plugged in your N900.

Hi...need help here.
I installed nitdroid 0.0.8 popov from auto installer. After that I installed nitdroid auto installer 0.2.8-8 and uninstalled first with the uninstall icon, and the I installed again using the other icon.
What happens now is that I have 3 options in multiboot screen:
1. Maemo 2.6.28-omap1
2. NITDroid 2.6.28.NIT.07 on mmcblk0p5
3. NITDroid 2.6.28.NIT.06 on mmcblk1p2

and both NITDroid are working perfect. How can I uninstall the 3rd option?

I tried using this : http://forum.nitdroid.com/index.php?topic=84.0
but after mounting I get this:
mounting /dev/mmcblk1p2 on /and failed: Device or recource busy

I tried using the uninstalling method 2 on the wiki but it says:
Nokia-N900:~# mount -o noatime,rw /devmmcblk1p2
mount: can't find /devmmcblk1p2 in /etc/fstab

Any help?

EDIT: I flashed my N900 anyway. Installing again...

Looks good ibrkalifa!!!

Even I have on mmcblk1p2, but not as smooth as yours. I use NITDroid 2.3.4 and Kernel 2.6.28.NIT.07 can you pls tell me what kernel version you use and what the size of the swap partition. Pls advice few tips for boosting the performance of nitdroid.

Thanks,
Sudarsan.

i use final1 06 kernel:) and just enable swap through xterminal in maemo, ;)

There is no difference between mmcblk0p2 and ${INT_CARD}p2 (which is the same as mmcblk1p2 in multiboot) except for the fact that the former is used when there is no memory card plugged in your N900, and the latter is used when there is a memory card plugged in your N900.

is that mean i installed NIT on mmc??, not emmc one??, omg, in storage option of nitdroid its show my home as internal memory,

It was IIRC mentioned in the relevant multiboot / recovery console?thread that the designation of eMMC and SD is different there.

After auto installation I am facing this problem. Android is not booting. I think my bz2 file is not dowloaded properly. So downloaded this file in my laptop but where to place this file in N900 ?
And after placing which steps i need to repeat ?

bzip2: Compressed file ends unexpectedly;
perhaps it is corrupted? *Possible* reason follows.
bzip2: No such file or directory
Input file = N12_UMay.tar.bz2, output file = N12_UMay.tar

It is possible that the compressed file(s) have become corrupted.

you already have downloaded the kernel and archieve and that is in MyDocs ( exactly where it should be placed ) but you when u do uninstallation ,you need to remove those kernel and archieve priot to a RE-installation .hope u get this . OR
it looks like something is wrong there with the installer file as ammyt has compressed it . You simply need to have a good e-connection ,run the autoinstaller and thats it ..dont forget to enable all repos

and if you want to do it manually ,then place the kernel and archieve in ( nitdroid /MyDocs ) in root folder ..
look at the video at first page ,run the commands and follow everything in that video.
you will be having a running android .:).

for those that have f*cked up text in their maemo UI you need to put the file from this thread: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=79252 in the correct location... that is all to it and the only solution except reflashing

This is because you should put the archive in the new directory which is:
/home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid
Put the N12_UMay.tar.bz2 inside that folder along with the RC7 kernel.

But the updated installer now uses the old directory that dj_steve set:
/home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid

Ammyt would you mind expanding on the problem with the calls, I seem to recall on some page it was an incompatibility with maemo's oss and android's alsa (or something like that). I would just like to understand the problem and possibly help, I need to install Nitdroid for once and for all

And that post about mounting the two partitions I am not sure exactly how to edit it, how I was thinking it could be attempted was by mounting the MyDocs like on maemo (in the user/MyDocs folder) and telling nitdroid to use the mmc as an sd card. I am not sure, I need to install nitdroid :)

Last 2 installers, installing from clean, finding the same as TransTech. Currently have the last installer from this thread installed. I've tried installing options C, D and E. Each time it downloads the N12 bz2 (and subsequently renames the other downloads). On both options D and E the installer then fails to download the next item; http error 404. Option C, the installer bails before even trying to download anything else.

I've got the N12 bz2 in .nitdroid along with the rc7 kernal.deb. Going to clear out everything in the .nitdroid directory and try again.

Edit - Nope. No go. n14_dev_snapshot.tar.bz2 is the download it fails on, http://downloads.nitdroid.com/e-yes/ <--- isn't there
